G-Cores is a well-known Chinese community for game developers. The game Off Work was created for the "Boom 2025 Jam" event at the invitation of a friend. The development lasted about three weeks, during which I was responsible for all development work and part of the game design. Interestingly, the game has extremely simple controls—players only need to tap traffic lights to help pedestrians cross the road. Our original intention was a bit whimsical: we designed characters like pets and square-dancing aunties that could chaos the scene. The art team insisted on including "spectacular" animations where cars knock down crowds, making the game quite thrilling.
In the first week, I completed the game framework, traffic system, vehicle navigation, pedestrian pathfinding, and various animation effects. The remaining time was spent optimizing the game to make it more fun. Since I found that G-Cores' website isn’t accessible in all countries, I deployed the game on another platform (there was also a designer on the team working in Tokyo).
